5 Tips To Prepare for Your Flooring Design Center Meeting

September 9th, 2021

Whether you’re building a home or deciding to embark on a dream renovation project, the process of selecting new floors, finishes, etc., can be a little stressful. After all, there are countless choices to choose from. You might be thinking to yourself, how do I narrow down my options to make informed decisions? Well, we’re here to take out some of that guesswork and make you feel a little more at ease about your upcoming design meeting with us. Here are a few tips to keep in mind!

Decide on a Budget

Setting parameters and creating your own guardrails is an essential part of the design process. It’ll help keep all parties on the same page and possibly prevent many uncomfortable conversations between spouses, family members, and your designer. So, start creating a detailed budget and stick to it.

TIP: If you’re working with a builder for a new home, know upfront what’s considered “standard” when working through your budget. Knowing this can help you stick to more economical options and research the costs of deviating from standard options.

Make A List of Must-Haves

Like any major purchase, make a list of your must-haves or things you are not willing to live without. For example, when selecting a flooring option, you may want something very durable or water-resistant to accommodate your growing family and pets. Make a list of those specific characteristics so you won’t be swayed by other options during the selection process.

Create a Pinterest Board

Thank goodness for Pinterest! A Pinterest board can be a lifesaver to help curate and organize your vision for your new home or renovation. So much so that we have to wonder how anyone made any progress without it. By collecting certain images in one spot, you’ll see certain trends that will be helpful to keep in mind when selecting tile, flooring, and finishes for your project.

TIP: Make sure your Pinterest board is completely up-to-date prior to your design meeting. Share it with your designer so they can help guide you in the right direction.

Scope Out The Design Center

Come by and see us! And this tip goes for any design center. Scope out current inventory, ask questions about specials, and peruse in-stock options. It’s also helpful to ask about custom order items, if applicable, to know what’s available to you before your meeting.

Set Aside Samples

If you have existing furniture that you’d like to incorporate with new updates, having samples can help you visualize the new environment in its entirety. For instance, if you have furniture swatches, bring them to your meeting. This will help you and your designer select an option to complement your existing items while rounding out your ideal vision.

TIP: Create a live mood board with swatches and samples to further visualize the look you want to achieve.

We hope we’ve been able to provide some helpful tips for your upcoming design meeting to ease your anxieties and make the process more smoothly efficient.
